If your ideal winter weekend includes good food, excellent wine and a scenic drive out of the city, Cattle & Cork offers all three.

Returning to Galloway Gardens in the Magaliesberg on Saturday, 18 July 2026, this one-day festival celebrates South African beef, local wine and the people who produce them. Set against the backdrop of rolling countryside, it's a chance to slow down, enjoy the outdoors and discover the stories behind what's on your plate and in your glass.

A Taste of South African Beef

At the heart of the festival is a guided tasting experience that introduces visitors to a selection of South African beef breeds.

Each ticket includes five tasting portions, giving guests the opportunity to compare different breeds while learning more about the farming practices, characteristics and flavour profiles that make each one unique. Farmers will be on hand throughout the day to share their knowledge and answer questions, adding a personal touch to the experience.

Wines to Match

The beef tastings are paired with wines from participating South African wine estates, with visitors receiving a tasting glass on arrival to sample wines throughout the day.

For those who prefer something different, additional beverages, including craft beer and gin, will also be available for purchase.

Relax Into the Afternoon

Beyond the tastings, the festival is designed as an easy-going day in the countryside.

Live music provides the soundtrack while guests wander between tasting stations, settle into the gardens or simply enjoy the winter sunshine with family and friends. With its open spaces and relaxed atmosphere, it's the kind of event that encourages visitors to take their time rather than rush from one activity to the next.

A Worthwhile Winter Escape

Just over an hour from Johannesburg, the Magaliesberg has long been a favourite destination for day trips. Cattle & Cork offers another reason to make the drive, combining local produce, regional wines and live entertainment in a setting that's a world away from the city's pace.

Whether you're a serious food enthusiast, a wine lover, or simply looking for something different to do this weekend, the festival promises a relaxed day centred on great South African flavours.

The Bottom Line

Winter weekends don't have to be spent indoors.

Cattle & Cork combines good food, local wine, live music and the beauty of the Magaliesberg into a day that's as much about enjoying the countryside as it is about discovering South African produce. If you're looking for a relaxed escape from Johannesburg before the weekend slips away, this is one worth considering.
