People using Robyn Park have some encouraging news: cameras are being installed following reports of robberies and attacks along the river route.

According to Fourways Review, OnArmor Security Services is funding the project. Its operations director, Cedric Smith, says the cameras will be monitored around the clock from the company’s control room, with a reaction vehicle dispatched when necessary.

The initial plan was for five cameras, with the number expected to increase to about eight. That is a planned expansion, rather than confirmation that eight cameras are already operating.

For walkers and cyclists, the intended benefit is an additional way to spot trouble and call for assistance. Whether the installation reduces incidents remains to be established.

The Bottom Line

Robyn Park should be somewhere people can enjoy being outdoors. Additional monitoring is a welcome step towards supporting that, although cameras cannot guarantee anyone’s safety.
