The Maslow Sandton Is Becoming More Than a Business Hotel |
From authentic Japanese sushi to chef-led dining experiences, this Sandton hotel is quietly building a reputation as a destination for food lovers. |

For many Joburg residents, The Maslow Sandton has long been associated with business travellers and corporate conferences. But beyond its meeting rooms is a very different side of the hotel. Set among landscaped gardens in the heart of Sandton, The Maslow has steadily expanded its food and lifestyle offering, creating experiences that appeal just as much to locals as overnight guests. From a new traditional sushi menu to intimate chef-led dinners and relaxed Sunday picnics, it's becoming a destination worth visiting in its own right.
A New Sushi Experience Arrives
The latest addition is a traditional Japanese-inspired sushi menu at Lacuna Bistro, launching on 17 July 2026.
Developed under the guidance of Japanese chef Katsuhiko "Miya" Miyamoto, the menu focuses on classic techniques and carefully prepared ingredients rather than elaborate fusion creations. Diners can expect nigiri, sashimi, maki and signature rolls prepared with an emphasis on balance, freshness and presentation.
For sushi enthusiasts looking beyond the usual favourites, it offers another reason to visit Sandton.
Dining Beyond the Menu
Lacuna Bistro has also become known for Plated: A Chef's Table, an intimate dining series in which guests enjoy seasonal, multi-course menus while learning more about the inspiration behind each dish.
Rather than simply serving dinner, the evenings offer insight into ingredients, preparation techniques and the stories behind the menu, creating a more personal dining experience.
Sundays in the Garden
Maslow's gardens also provide the setting for its popular Sunday Society picnics.
Guests can enjoy live music, gourmet picnic baskets and themed outdoor gatherings that transform the hotel's green spaces into one of Sandton's more relaxed weekend settings. It's a reminder that, even in Johannesburg's busiest business district, there are still places where the pace slows down.
More Than a Hotel Stay
The experience doesn't end with dining.
Visitors can extend their stay with a treatment at the hotel's Africology Spa, whose facilities include hydrotherapy experiences designed to complement a day of relaxation.
Combined with the gardens and outdoor spaces, it creates a welcome contrast to the surrounding city skyline.

The Bottom Line
The Maslow Sandton is gradually redefining itself as more than a place to stay overnight.
With thoughtful dining experiences, seasonal events and one of the largest green spaces in central Sandton, it has become a destination where locals can enjoy everything from a long lunch to an elegant evening out without leaving the city. |
