Rediscover Johannesburg on Foot: 702 Walk the Talk Returns This July |
Thousands will take to the streets for the iconic event celebrating city culture and community |

Most of us know Johannesburg from behind a steering wheel, travelling from one destination to the next with little time to notice the streets, buildings and neighbourhoods that make the city unique. Once a year, that changes as thousands of people leave their cars behind and explore the inner city on foot.
On Sunday, 26 July 2026, the 702 Jozi My Jozi Walk the Talk returns to the Johannesburg CBD, inviting residents of all ages to celebrate the city's history, culture and community spirit. Hosted in partnership with the City of Johannesburg and the Jozi My Jozi initiative, this year's event encourages people to experience the city through fresh eyes while supporting its ongoing renewal.
Three Ways to Explore the City
Starting and finishing at the Ellis Park Stadium precinct, participants can choose from three routes designed to showcase different parts of Johannesburg.
The 5km route offers a relaxed walk through Victoria Yards and surrounding creative spaces, making it ideal for families and casual walkers.
The 8km route heads through Maboneng and parts of the historic city centre, blending Johannesburg's rich heritage with its growing urban culture.
For those looking for a longer challenge, the 15km route crosses the iconic Nelson Mandela Bridge before passing through Newtown and Braamfontein, highlighting some of the city's best-known landmarks and cultural precincts.
Along every route, walkers can enjoy live entertainment, refreshment stations and interactive activities that add to the festive atmosphere.
Walking for a Greater Purpose
Beyond bringing people together, Walk the Talk also supports initiatives that assist people experiencing homelessness.
Participants can choose to purchase Mi-Change digital vouchers during registration. These vouchers can be redeemed through participating organisations for essentials such as meals, clothing, shelter and support services, helping people access practical assistance with dignity.
Just the Facts
The Bottom Line
Walk the Talk has always been about more than covering a few kilometres. It is an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with Johannesburg and experience parts of the city that many people simply drive past every day.
Whether you are walking with family, catching up with friends or taking on the full 15km route, the event is a reminder that some of the best ways to appreciate a city begin on foot. |
