The Greenhouse in Sandton Now Does Lunch, and You Should Probably Stay for the Night
If you know The Greenhouse, you know it for late nights. Sunset cocktails that turn into dinner that turns into dancing. It has called itself South Africa's first authentic supper club, and nobody has really argued.
But now it does lunch. And honestly, it might be even better in the daylight.
A New Partnership With Cape Town's Shortmarket Club
The Greenhouse partnered with Cape Town's celebrated Shortmarket Club late last year. That brought a new menu, a new energy, and a daytime service that launched in November.
The plant-filled glasshouse that looks so good under dim evening lighting turns out to look even better when the sun hits it at midday. The courtyard is lush, bright, and the kind of place where an hour easily turns into three.
Open Thursday to Saturday, 12:00 to 6:00.
The Lunch Menu: From Pan con Tomate to Sumac Chicken
The lunch menu is built for long, lazy afternoons. Light enough to keep you going but rich enough to make you stay.
The Pan con Tomate is the dish everyone is talking about. Toasted brioche rubbed with fresh tomato, olive oil, and salt. It sounds simple. Time Out called it one of their favourite starters of the year.
The Napolitana with grilled chicken, basil, and feta has been reworked from a creamy pasta into a proper, punchy tomato sauce. Comfort food done right.
The Sumac Chicken is the signature. Chicken thighs with corn creme, popped sorghum, roasted garlic, charred peaches, and dill. It looks like it belongs in a cookbook and tastes even better.
Dessert is a Cinnamon and Orange Pannacotta with Cointreau and pistachio. Silky, sharp, and just the right amount of crunch.
The Cocktail List: From Light Sips to Bold Pours
This is a supper club bar, so the cocktails are not an afterthought.
The Boujee Bitch is the one for lunch. Absolut Vodka, lemon, elderflower, and soda. Light, bright, dangerously easy.
The Henny Pot is for the bold. Hennessy VS, Appletiser, elderflower, and lemon. Strong.
The Casamango mixes Casamigos tequila with mango, lemon, triple sec, and a dash of Tabasco. Punchy and spicy. The kind of drink that starts a story.
The Bottom Line
The Greenhouse was already one of Sandton's best nights out. Now it is one of the best lunches too. The Shortmarket Club partnership brought the food up to match the atmosphere, and the daytime setting shows the space in a whole new light.
Go for the Pan con Tomate. Stay for the cocktails. See what happens after six.
