Three words on a handwritten note stood out for Parktown High School for Girls learner Nicola Botha: “She is worthy.”

For her, the message reminded her that effort matters even when the results disappoint.

Nicola participated in Dress Her in Dignity, a collaboration between the school and tax advisory company Latita Africa. Unveiled on 4 September 2026, the project used handwritten messages to dress a mannequin in encouragement. 

Learners brought the project together.

Members of the school’s Values Club gathered contributions from learners, staff and the community, then assembled the artwork with support from teacher Hester Jurgens.

Commissioned for Women’s Month, the initiative formed part of Latita Africa’s More than a Moment corporate social investment programme.

An idea to take into everyday life

The project offers a simple starting point for conversations at home or school:

• Be specific with encouragement. Recognise someone’s effort, kindness or courage.
• Make room for quieter voices. Give others time to share their thoughts.
• Look beyond achievement. Remind young people that a disappointing result does not define their worth.

The Bottom Line

Encouragement means more when everyday behaviour supports it. Listening, showing respect, and recognising effort are things each of us can practise long after Awareness Month ends.
