Lunch can become an afternoon out at NIROX Sculpture Park in the Cradle of Humankind. Its on-site restaurant, And Then There Was Fire, combines a wood-fired grill and tapas café with access to grounds filled with outdoor art.

Where to Eat

And then there was Fire opens Thursday to Sunday from 11:00, with the kitchen closing at 16:00. Book ahead and ask for the current menu and any dietary options when reserving.

Park admission is charged separately from your meal. Confirmed restaurant bookings qualify for reduced entry, but published prices range from R70 to R80 per person. Confirm the amount when booking.

For something lighter, the Lawn Pavilion Café advertises baguettes, salad bowls, pastries and cakes on this weekend’s listings.

Stay for the Sculptures

Before or after lunch, explore the park’s lawns, waterways and more than 50 permanent and long-term art installations. Wear comfortable walking shoes and allow time beyond your restaurant reservation.

Before You Go

  • Where: NIROX Sculpture Park, R540 Kromdraai Road, Cradle of Humankind.
  • Dates: Open-day tickets are listed for 7 and 8 November 2026.
  • Park hours: Weekend listings show 10:00–17:00, while the general visitor page lists closing at 16:00. Confirm with the venue.
  • Standard entry: R150 per adult; R80 per child aged 2–12. Restaurant meals cost extra.
  • Restaurant booking: Visit And Then There Was Fire or call 064 537 4473. A park ticket does not reserve a table.
  • Payment: Cashless.
  • Restrictions: No outside food or drinks, cooler boxes, pets or portable speakers. Do not climb on sculptures or swim.
  • Park tickets: Check NIROX’s booking page.

The Bottom Line

Reserve your table first, budget for park admission and leave time for a walk. The restaurant and sculpture park make a straightforward food-and-art outing in one location.
