Local Brand DORAH Launches With R1 Million Development Grant |
The Gauteng launch highlights support available to help South African businesses bring locally developed products to market. |

South African intimate-care brand DORAH has launched its product development with government-backed funding.
The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition confirmed in a 31 October 2026 statement that a R1 million grant was made available to Aabaalio Holdings (Pty) Ltd, the company producing DORAH. The launch was held at The Fortress Avenue in Edenvale.
What Is DORAH?
Proudly South African’s October newsletter identifies the brand’s main product as an intimate roll-on deodorant designed for external use.
The business also has a Johannesburg manufacturing connection: the department’s statement includes officials visiting the Sandton plant where DORAH products are produced.
Where the Funding Came From
The grant came through the Grassroots Innovation Facilitation Scheme, a funding mechanism within the Khoebo Innovation Promotion Programme (KIPP).
KIPP is a departmental programme administered by the Industrial Development Corporation. It supports businesses commercialising locally developed innovations, with particular emphasis on township and rural entrepreneurs.
Speaking at the launch, departmental chief director Claudy Steyn emphasised the need for partnerships between government, industry and research institutions. IDC executive Rian Coetzee similarly highlighted the importance of partnerships in helping new products reach customers.
A Starting Point for Other Entrepreneurs
For readers developing their own products, the programme offers a funding route worth investigating.
The IDC’s current KIPP page says:
Applicants should check the terms for their particular funding route. DORAH’s grant does not mean every KIPP applicant receives grant funding; the wider programme also describes medium- to long-term funding.
The Bottom Line
DORAH’s launch provides a concrete example of support for local product development. Entrepreneurs can explore the IDC’s KIPP resources to establish whether their innovation meets the programme’s requirements. |
