For 20 years, Gert-Johan Coetzee has been known for dramatic couture and red-carpet fashion. Now, the Johannesburg-based designer is adding another layer to the brand: fragrance.

His new collection launches officially on Thursday, 13 August 2026, with six fragrances designed around different moods and personalities. The flagship scent is called Uncontainable.

Six scents, six moods

Coetzee says the collection has been six years in the making. The idea grew after a visit to Grasse, France, the historic centre of fine perfumery, where he immersed himself in the world of fragrance oils.

The fragrances are Extraits de Parfum, containing a 35% fragrance oil concentration. That places them at the more concentrated end of the fragrance market and is intended to give the scents greater depth and longevity.

Why fragrance?

For Coetzee, perfume is an extension of fashion.

Just as clothing can say something about the person wearing it, he sees fragrance as another way to express personality and create a lasting impression.

The collection also reflects the idea that fragrance varies with skin, climate, environment, and application.
