Bassline Fest Returns to Constitution Hill This May

Bassline Fest is back. The annual music celebration returns to Constitution Hill on Saturday 23 May 2026. This year marks a special milestone. The festival celebrates 20 years of bringing people together through African music and culture.

The Lineup: Four Voices, One Stage

This year the theme is Say Africa. The lineup brings together some of the most soulful voices in South African music.

Ami Faku will take the stage. Her powerful voice and emotional songs have made her one of the most loved artists in the country. Vusi Mahlasela brings his legendary folk sound. He has been called the Voice of South Africa for good reason. Maleh adds her unique blend of soul and African rhythms. Brandon Aura rounds out the bill with fresh energy and modern style.

The Venue: History Meets Music

Constitution Hill sits in the heart of Braamfontein. It was once a prison complex. Today it stands as a symbol of democracy and freedom. The Old Fort, the Women’s Jail and Number Four have been transformed into a living museum. It is a fitting place for a festival that celebrates African culture and unity.

What You Need to Know

Bassline Fest is more than a concert. It is a full day of music, food and community. The festival brings together people from all walks of life to celebrate what makes African music special.

The event has grown over two decades. It started as a small gathering and has become one of the most anticipated music events in Johannesburg. The 20 year celebration promises to be the biggest one yet.

Why This Matters for Joburg

Music festivals like this keep our city alive. They give local artists a platform and bring international attention to our vibrant culture scene. Constitution Hill as a venue adds deeper meaning. It reminds us how far we have come as a nation while we celebrate where we are going.

For locals, this is a chance to experience world class music without leaving the city. For visitors, it is a perfect introduction to the soul of Johannesburg.
