Nelson Mandela Legacy Sporting Series Brings Four Major Events Together |
Walk, run or cycle your way through a new sporting series inspired by Nelson Mandela's belief in the power of sport to bring people together. |
Whether you're a seasoned runner, an enthusiastic cyclist, or simply enjoy getting outdoors with family and friends, a new sporting series is giving South Africans more ways to get involved this year.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation has launched the Nelson Mandela Legacy Sporting Series, bringing four established sporting events together under one banner for the first time. Taking place across Johannesburg, KwaZulu-Natal, Cape Town and Tshwane, the series celebrates participation, community and the enduring belief that sport can unite people across generations and backgrounds.
Four Events, One Series
The sporting calendar begins with the Mandela Day Walk & Run at DP World Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on 19 July, where participants can choose among a 5km walk, a 10km race, or a 21km half-marathon.
In September, cyclists will take on the Legacy Ride4Hope, travelling from Maputo, Mozambique, to the Nelson Mandela Capture Site near Howick.
October introduces the inaugural Nelson Mandela Marathon in Cape Town, before the series concludes with the Nelson Mandela Remembrance Walk & Run in Tshwane on 5 December.
More Than Competition
While each event has its own identity, they all share a common purpose: encouraging people of all ages and fitness levels to get active while celebrating one of South Africa's most enduring legacies. Whether participants walk, run or cycle, the emphasis is on taking part, enjoying the experience and connecting with others through sport.
What You Need to Know Before You Go
