Turn Up the Volume: That Winter Fest Returns to Johannesburg

South Africa's alternative music scene comes together for a full day of live rock, punk and psych at Sognage this July.

Winter is usually a time to stay indoors, but That Winter Fest is giving Johannesburg music lovers every reason to head out instead.

Returning for its fourth year on Saturday, 11 July 2026, the festival takes over Sognage in Strydompark with its biggest line-up yet.

Hosted by Boogy Central and Sognage, the event has become one of Johannesburg's standout gatherings for fans of alternative music, bringing together rock, punk, garage and psychedelic bands for more than 12 hours of live performances.

Two Stages. One Massive Day of Music

This year's festival features two dedicated stages, giving fans a packed programme from afternoon through to after midnight.

The Main Stage welcomes well-known South African acts including Desmond & The Tutus, The Tazers, Black Math, Shameless and Crunchy Sweater.

Meanwhile, the Punk Stage turns up the intensity with performances by Ruff Majik, Sextape, Worms, Necklace and Drunk Wizard.

More Than Just the Music

While the live performances are the main attraction, That Winter Fest is designed as an all-day experience.

Festival-goers can expect professional stage production, immersive visual effects, food vendors, fully stocked bars, official band merchandise and an outdoor chill area for those wanting to take a break between sets. With both indoor and outdoor spaces, the festival offers a comfortable way to enjoy live music during Johannesburg's winter.
